Safety System Refurbishment for Scottish Power
Capula has been awarded the contract for HP Feed Heater Protection Control Systems on all four of the 600MW generating units at Scottish Power's Longannet Power Station at Kincardine-on-Forth, Fife.
Longannet is the second-largest coal-fired power station in the UK and one of the largest in Europe and can produce enough electricity to meet the needs of two million people. It has an installed capacity of 2400MW and on average produces 10.4 TWh per year.
The HP Heater Protection System protects the main turbine from water ingress from the HP heaters. The system is vital for the safe operation of the turbine and feed heater plant and, because of this, it has been classed by Scottish Power as a 'safety system' and, as such, the project will be carried out to BS EN 61508 guidelines for safety related systems. The project includes functional specification, detailed design, system test, integration test, full site commissioning and independent external functional safety assessment.
