Project Seer - Consistent Available Data in Real Time
Chevron Upstream Europe (CUE) is based in Aberdeen, Scotland and has been working in the North Sea since the 1960s. Net production from Chevron's North Sea fields averaged some 163,000 barrels of crude oil and 472 million cubic feet of natural gas per day in 2004. The Captain Field – the first part of CUE to implement Project Seer – averaged a total production of 54,800 barrels of oil per day in 2003.
Project Seer is totally focused on delivering 'one version of the truth'. It is an IT infrastructure built on the Service Orientation Business Intelligence (SOBI) framework (jointly created by Conchango and Microsoft Services). SOBI is based on two well-known and well-understood architectural approaches: Service Orientation, exposing systems, applications and data as services;: and Business Intelligence, a platform consisting of data warehousing of key analytical data and time series data feeds and analysis.
Capula has been contributing to Project Seer since 2005, providing products, consultancy and services in support of the real-time components embedded in the Seer infrastructure. Chevron has made a significant investment in the OSIsoft RtPM platform to deliver real-time data integration, management and visualisation. The OSIsoft PI Server forms a core part of the Seer data warehouse, closely integrating with Microsoft SQL Server to provide a unified view of time series and relational data to provide higher quality information to the business at all levels.
Capula is responsible for the whole OSIsoft product delivery into Project Seer: from the core PI Servers with their many interfaces to diverse real-time data sources, manipulation of real-time data events, integration with real-time data consumers, through to our contribution to the development of a unique presentation layer with its web components making use of RtPortal.
Seer begins with the belief that timely accurate data is a valuable asset that can provide a competitive edge. By doing so Project Seer supports continuous improvement across the Chevron Upstream Europe business.
