Management Information using PI for Scottish Power
Capula delivered a Management Information System to Scottish Power for five of their wind farms in Scotland, Dun Law, Hare Hill, Beinn an Tuirc and Hagshaw Hill based on PI with interfaces to existing SCADA systems at each wind farm substation.
Scottish Power's arrangements for accessing sites to establish status and performance data was unsatisfactory and would have become more so as the number of wind farms increases significantly.
Scottish Power decided to invest in PI to provide the much-needed Management Information System (MIS). The system stores key plant data for each of the wind farms for a minimum of five years. The MIS is interfaced between the PI node and the site SCADA systems and the connections between the wind farms and the PI system is via dial-up telephone lines.
Work on the project included:
- Configuration of all required hardware including PI server, interface nodes and dial-out facilities
- All required software configured to provide all the functionality of the MIS as a minimum, including all interfaces to the site SCADA systems
- All telecoms to site, using Scottish Power's network infrastructure provider
- Removable mass-storage devices for archive data and configuration backup as required
- Full factory acceptance testing including documentation of system to be witnessed by Scottish Power
- Full installation of the system on-site
- Commissioning of new system
- Full site testing to prove correct operation of new system
- Full documentation of the system
- Training of engineers and support staff
