Deltec Alliance formed

In response to research by BNFL into efficiencies within its supply chain, four companies have come together to form the Deltec Alliance. These companies are RTS, Morson Projects, DGP International, and Capula. This development builds on already close business relationships within the Alliance and seeks to serve the needs of the nuclear engineering sector. www.deltec-alliance.com

Robert Astall, head of procurement for Sellafield M&O Services commented:

"We looked outside the nuclear industry to inform our thinking and established a best practice model to deliver integrated packaged solutions for our design needs. We call this new model MDDH, or Multi-Disciplinary Design Houses. We believe this new model will deliver a big change in value for money. By integrating our work with that of the supply chain and by packaging work more tightly, real performance incentives can be deployed."

Tony Moore, managing director of RTS Nuclear Solutions International and director of the Deltec Alliance said:

"With over 1,000 experienced nuclear engineers, we have one of the largest, multi-disciplined nuclear engineering resource in the UK. As an MDDH Alliance we are proud to have truly equal partners, although RTS is taking the lead merely from a commercial perspective. The scope of each project we win will affect which of the Alliance members takes the technical lead. We are confident of our capabilities, which encompass all facets of design and engineering, from civil and structural at one extreme to software at the other. We are also able to offer more than design. The Deltec Alliance will be involved with design implementation, including the supply of plant and equipment, installation, commissioning and ongoing support."

Although the four companies each have more than 20 years' experience of working with BNFL and other customers in the nuclear industry, there is also a great deal of cross fertilization from other sectors. The companies that comprise Deltec have also met with success in the aerospace, pharmaceutical, chemical, public sector, healthcare and utilities spheres. It is expected that, in time, the Deltec Alliance will branch out to serve other highly regulated industries in addition to nuclear.

All four members of the new Deltec Alliance have enjoyed success together on previous, high profile projects. The BNFL Technology Centre was one such, as were several projects on the LAEMG Asset Group. Perhaps the most prestigious project was the supercompaction glovebox suite for the Advanced Mixed Waste treatment project in Idaho. The system is the centrepiece of a waste treatment facility built to treat and prepare 65,000 cubic meters of transursanic and low-level mixed waste for shipment and then final disposal at the waste isolation pilot plant in New Mexico. A team led by RTS was extensively involved in the front-end definition stage through manufacture, build, test and software integration. At 54 feet long and 29 feet high, the overall glovebox suite is one of the largest in operation today.
