Capula wins Scottish Power BETTA contracts

09 Dec 2005

Some years ago the new electricity trading agreement (NETA) came into force within England, resulting in a big change in the operating regime of the English power stations.

On 1st April 2005 the Scottish equivalent came into force (BETTA).
Late last year, Capula won an order to implement Load Control and Master Pressure Control at two of Scottish Powers stations, Cockenzie and Longannet.

Longannet required new software to be written and installed within existing PLC controllers, whilst Cockenzie required a totally new set of PLC and SCADA equipment together with a complete set of software coupled with four units worth of custom built Auto/Manual Stations.

Against extremely tight timescales, difficult working conditions, and implementations and commissioning in parallel, the stations hit the BETTA go-live date successfully and are running on our control systems for Load and Master Pressure Control.

Scottish Power made a point of telling us how pleased they were with the work achieved against great odds; indeed they said it would not have been possible with anyone else.

Therefore, thanks to the project team members for this success.
