Capula supply control systems for waste treatment plants

Lancashire is set to become one of the leading areas in Europe for environmentally friendly waste management, with a Capula control system at its heart.

Since the European Parliament passed the Landfill Directive in 2000, there is a set limit on the amount of biodegradable municipal waste that can be sent to landfill. Lancashire County Council, as part of a £2 billion waste contract also involving Blackpool Council and Global Renewables (the Manchester-based subsidiary of Australian engineering group GRD Limited), are creating two Mechanical Biological Treatment plants in Leyland and Thornton.

Waste will be sorted using an innovative mechanical and biological treatment process that recovers recyclable materials such as paper, metal, glass and plastic. It then transforms the organic portions of the waste into renewable energy and a high quality compost product, suitable for woodland or energy crop planting, together with land reclamation and remediation.

Working in conjunction with Waste 2 Resources, a joint venture between GRD Minproc and Bovis Lend Lease Technologies), the Capula control system will control the entire plant from sorting waste to energy production.
