Contract for data historian solution for Centrica
23 Aug 2009
Capula is very pleased to have been awarded a contract by Centrica Storage Ltd (CSL) to implement a data historian solution based on OSIsoft PI at their Rough Gas Storage facilities at Easington, near Hull. The asset consists of an Onshore Gas Processing Terminal and pair of Offshore Gas Storage platforms.
CSL felt a global process data historian would offer numerous benefits in enabling engineers to make more informed judgements that would enhance core business operations and deliver real cost savings.
An initial study established that the introduction of a suitable system would see value in a number of areas, including:
- The automation of data acquisition and reporting processes
- The streamlining of communication between sites through a consistent view of process and performance data
- The genuine automation of monitoring and reporting, thus developing and improving internal processes
- The business-critical data would remain online and available in a specialised time-series database
In addition, specific needs were identified that have the potential to deliver both significant cost savings and increased revenue through improved modelling of existing processes and enhanced decision support made possible by real time access to key process data.
The project involves both onshore and offshore hardware and software implementation, working to tight offshore outage periods with integration to DCS systems from ABB and Emerson, compressor control systems from Rolls Royce and Cogsys, along with other internal Centrica systems for fiscal metering and gas quality analysis at Easington and at their Commercial headquarters at Staines, Middlesex.
Awarded in August 2009, the work is currently ongoing and is expected to be logging data by December 2009.
“Capula enjoys an ongoing relationship with Centrica,” said Chief Executive Roger Turner, “And to be awarded a contract like this not only demonstrates our commitment to the Oil & Gas industry but our intention to continue to make a positive impact in the Energy & Utilities sectors.”
