Costain award Capula contract at Sellafield
17 Apr 2010
Costain, one of the UK's leading engineering and construction groups, has contracted Capula to design and install the plant control system at Sellafield's new £350m Evaporator D project on their main site in Cumbria.
Highly active evaporators play a pivotal role in the delivery of reprocessing, historic clean up and hazard reduction missions across the Sellafield site. Construction of Evaporator D, a new Highly Active (HA) Liquid Evaporator will provide additional evaporator capacity to support the site's existing evaporators.
The Capula control system will utilise Rockwell Automation's new PlantPAx Process Automation System, along with their FactoryTalk SCADA platform, which will enable Sellafield to maintain optimal performance of the unit once operational while ensuring reliability and minimising life cycle costs.
The control system will also integrate with Plant Control Systems (PCS), Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC) and the Radiological Protection System (RPS) within the unit.
"As a Recognized Systems Integrator for Rockwell Automation, Capula are well placed to deliver this control system solution" said Capula Chief Executive Roger Turner.
