EDF Energy renews Capula support at West Burton

West Burton power station is a 2,000MW coal-fired plant located in Nottingham. In 1995, the station carried out a major control systems upgrade and Capula received a contract to replace the existing control systems with a new platform. This platform was based on the APMS SCADA and APACS controllers to perform the plant control and protection functions. It was a major undertaking, and became the first of a number of major Control & Instrumentation refits done by Capula on large coal-fired power plants.

Since its initial installation in 1995, further plant areas have been automated and modernised by Capula, including the common plant, the coal-handling plant and others. West Burton went on to build Flue Gas Desulphurisation plant and Capula again provided all of the automation systems for this project.

The station is now owned by EDF Energy and Capula still provide technical support to their engineers and managers of these systems to this day. This is under a 24hr/365day basis both via telephone and by call-out response to site. EDF Energy has continued to renew the support contracts for these systems with Capula on a periodic basis and this month signed a further renewal contract, meaning that we continue to support all control systems at West Burton, as we have for many years.
