Capula lands phase two of UKPN's LCNF Project
19 Dec 2011
Having successfully delivered the first phase of an improved OSIsoft PI solution for UK Power Networks as part of the company’s Distribution Network Visibility Project, Capula has been awarded a contract to deliver the second phase.
The purpose of UK Power Networks’ £3m Distribution Network Visibility Project is to develop a smart central repository for data from existing operational and business systems which can then be combined, transformed and visualised to provide greater understanding and insight into interactions across the network.
The second phase (which is scheduled to last twelve months with completion set for December 2012) will see the prototype solution - developed during the first phase of the project – further enhanced in line with the architectural framework designed by Capula. We will be working closely with UK Power Networks (formerly EDF Energy Networks) to align the solution to their preferred technologies, using web-based visualisation tools to deliver the system to the users.
In parallel, additional data will be extracted from existing RTUs and a phased rollout will commence of PowerSense optical devices, enabling new network data to be captured for the first time where RTUs are not present, and integrated into the solution.
Capula Business Development Director, Simon Coombs, said: “After the successful delivery of the first phase, Capula is ideally placed to deliver the second segment of this landmark project.
“UK Power Networks have recognised our capabilities in this field and we remain dedicated to playing a fundamental role as the UK moves towards a smart grid future.”
