E.ON/National Grid wind farm interface
19 Sep 2011
Capula has successfully delivered a control interface on behalf of E.ON, which links their Robin Rigg offshore wind farm to National Grid’s central control centre.
Consisting of 60 turbines and capable of generating up to 180MW of power, the Robin Rigg wind farm at Solway Firth is the first commercial offshore wind farm in Scottish waters. The wind farm can provide enough electricity to power approximately 117,000 homes, displacing around 230,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions.
Capula provided a GI74 (National Grid’s communication protocol) interface from Robin Rigg to National Grid’s Central Control Centre at Wokingham, Berkshire.
“Capula has a high level of expertise in substation control systems through our longstanding relationship with National Grid,” said Chris Conn, Capula’s Transmission & Distribution Manager, “and this was a key factor in us winning this contract ahead of stiff competition.”
