HVDC contract with Alstom Grid
07 Apr 2011
Capula has secured a contract with the newly-named Alstom Grid, Power Electronic Systems (formerly Areva) for the production of cubicles across four key projects around the globe.
With a contract value in excess of £1.5m, the cubicles will be divided predominantly across the IFA2000 subsea link and the KEPCO project in South Korea. The remainder will be installed at both the HVDC converter station in Melo, Uruguay (which interconnects with Brazil's power network) and the 600kV HVDC bipole in Rio Madeira, Brazil which links Porto Velho and Araraquara, in what will be the world's longest power transmission line with a total length of 2,375km.
The Capula built control system panels will enable Alstom's clients to transmit electricity over great distances maximising efficiency through their innovative HVDC technology.
"Capula has enjoyed good relationships with both Areva and Alstom over many years, and we're delighted to have won this contract which follows on our previous work on the IFA2000 and KEPCO projects," said Capula's Business Development Director Simon Coombs, "We look forward to working with Alstom Grid on this and many future projects to come."
