Rugeley Power Station
Rugeley Power Station in the heart of Staffordshire was a coal fired power station that produced enough power to meet the needs of approximately half a million homes across the UK. This power station was part of a joint venture between ENGIE and Mitsui & Co Ltd, which ceased operation in June 2016. Before its closure, Capula was selected to provide a comprehensive suite of services to support their operational requirements.
Power generation is a 24*7 business and a robust control system was needed to help safeguard the long-term security and to ensure the efficient operation of the plant which produced 8,760,000 Mega-Watt-hours (MWh) of energy in a year. As a consequence, maintaining operational stability was of critical importance to the power station and to ENGIE and it was essential to secure the services of an organisation capable of providing a guaranteed and reliable service and support agreement for their mission critical systems.
How we helped
Capula was selected to provide operational support services to Rugeley Power Station’s key operational systems comprising the APMS (Advanced Plant Management System), FGD (Flu Gas Desulphurisation) and various PLC (Programmable Logic Controllers) systems, all of which control and monitor the plant’s operations and ensure the reliable supply of power to the nationwide network. Capula was engaged to provide essential services including the project management, management of spares, preventative maintenance programmes as well as reactive support which included access to skilled engineering resources 24 hours a day, coupled with guaranteed fix times for these critical assets. Capula’s long-standing relationship with Rugeley Power Station had developed over many years from having previously successfully delivered and supported a range of solutions at the power station. Capula’s highly skilled engineers were therefore fully conversant with the plant systems and processes and were suitably placed to support Rugeley’s requirements and deliver the highest standards of support required to ensure optimal plant performance and reliability.
