Remote System Monitor (RSM)
The Remote System Monitor (RSM) service provides an enhanced level of support to the PI System. It actively monitors and reports on the operating condition of the PI System software and the underlying operating system. The aim of the service is to identify current and future levels of system resource utilisation and any performance issues that may affect the integrity and availability of the PI System.
The service includes a monitoring agent that is installed on the PI Server. Tasks are scheduled to run periodically and the findings are reported back to the Customer PI System Manager.
The overall state of the PI System is monitored on a regular basis throughout the day and a summary report is compiled daily.
The daily report includes:
- Snapshot event rate, point count and archiving rate
- Event queue memory and file size
Specific Performance Indicators
These are extracted from the regular monitoring of the system and are reported immediately if considered excessive.
The triggers include:
- Events in overflow queue and event queue record count
- Current archive offline
On a daily basis the PI System archive file status and utilisation is monitored and reported including:
- Current archive utilisation
- Predicted shift date
- Registered archive listing and status
